How to Get Rid of Collected Molds Inside Your Coffee Maker

Molds breed virtually everywhere. For as long as there is a nice humid and dark environment, they will grow like mushrooms. Some types of molds are even poisonous. So if you don’t want this to be included in the coffee you are drinking, you might want to check out some tips on cleaning your brewer efficiently.

Step 1: Clean your brewer once or twice a week. You might want to do this on a Saturday when you can really concentrate on the task at hand. If you are not a heavy coffee drinker, once a week of cleaning is enough. But if you brew large batches of coffee every week, cleaning it twice a week is necessary.

Step 2: Prepare your brewer. Fill the water tank with one part of white vinegar and 2 parts of water. If this is your first time cleaning it, you can make it stronger by mixing equal parts of white vinegar and water. Vinegar is a very good natural ingredient that can help dissolve molds and unseat it from the places it is clinging to. This is also a good ingredient that can get rid of clogged lime deposits and coffee oil residues so you are cleaning not only molds but also a number of whatnots in your brewer.

Step 3: Make sure you have already placed the necessary parts in brewing such as the brew basket, coffee filter and the carafe. Do this right before starting the brewing functions. When it is all ready, you can hit the start button.

Step 4: Allow the machine to pass the solution inside the brewer and to get rid of the impurities. It will get rid of the impurities and purge it on to the carafe. When it is all done, check the carafe out if it is too dirty. If it is, you might want to do the first few steps again for a second batch of brewing. This is to make sure that no molds will be left inside.

Step 5: After that, fill up the water tank with clean water. Brew this so it can further cleanse the inside of your machine. This will also get rid of vinegar taste.

I discourage the use of bleach in getting rid of collected molds. Bleach is toxic and if this is not properly washed off, it can mix in the coffee you are brewing and poison your system.
